About Haven Massey

Haven Massey is a Partner at the firm whose practice focuses on construction law, corporate transactions, complex business and commercial litigation, and real estate. He is Board Certified in both Commercial Real Estate Law and Construction Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

Born and raised in Denton, Texas, Mr. Massey graduated from Denton High School before attending Texas A&M University, where he was a three-year letterman tight end for the Texas A&M football team and a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He graduated cum laude from Texas A&M in 2004 with a degree in Finance and then attended Baylor University School of Law, where he participated in mock trial competitions, volunteered with Legal Aid of Northwest Texas, studied abroad in London, and successfully completed Baylor’s nationally recognized Practice Court Program.

Drawing on the discipline and preparation instilled at Texas A&M and Baylor, he approaches each matter with a focus on hard work, perseverance, and practical judgment. He is committed to treating each client’s case as if it were his own, combining zealous advocacy with cost-conscious strategy and candid counseling designed to help clients avoid costly missteps.

Mr. Massey has continually invested in his professional development beyond his day-to-day practice. In 2012, he was certified as a contract advisor by the National Football League Player’s Association. In 2016, he became Board Certified in Construction Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in the first year the certification was offered. Then in 2024, he became Board Certified in Commercial Real Estate, thereby becoming one of fewer than 5 attorneys statewide who are board certified in both of those practice areas. All three certifications required passage of a rigorous examination and a long-term commitment to continuing legal education far exceeding the state bar’s minimum requirements.

Over the course of his career, Mr. Massey has developed a broad and sophisticated practice. He has served as lead counsel in multimillion-dollar litigation and arbitration matters and has prepared and filed hundreds of mechanic’s liens and bond claims across the country. He frequently presents on lien and bond claim as well as contract law to contractor associations throughout Texas. He also manages a wide range of transactional matters and brings the uncommon perspective of a litigator to contract drafting, having litigated many of the issues addressed in the agreements he prepares. He has drafted construction contracts for owners, contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers on projects of all sizes, formed numerous business entities and advised clients on corporate governance, and handled all aspects of residential and commercial real estate transactions, including purchase agreements, due diligence, closing documentation, and financing for institutional, hard money, and seller-financed deals. His experience also includes condominium projects, development agreements, and commercial and residential lease agreements, as well as independent contractor, executive, employment, separation, and non-compete agreements.

Away from the office, Mr. Massey enjoys spending time outdoors with his family and friends.
