Jon Marshall is a founding partner of Marshall Presley & Pipal PLLC (MPP). He represents businesses and individuals in complex commercial disputes, construction litigation, and real estate matters throughout Texas and nationwide. He also serves as outside general counsel to multinational and publicly traded companies, providing strategic legal guidance on day-to-day operations, contract negotiations, and dispute avoidance.
Mr. Marshall has extensive trial and arbitration experience, having successfully tried numerous cases to verdict in state court and through final hearing in arbitration. His construction practice encompasses the full spectrum of disputes: contract breaches, construction defects, mechanic’s liens and bond claims, payment disputes, and professional negligence claims. His commercial litigation practice includes breach of contract, business torts, partnership and shareholder disputes, and fraud claims.
Before founding MPP, he worked with firms of all sizes; Mr. Marshall began his legal career as a Judge Advocate General’s (JAG) Corps attorney in the United States Army, where he was promoted to his final rank of Major. After retiring from the military, he returned to Texas, having honed his legal skills by practicing nearly every aspect of the law and serving as a military prosecutor representing the United States of America. As a federal prosecutor, he tried more than 25 felony-level criminal cases and conducted hundreds of administrative hearings, never losing a case as lead trial counsel. He also served as a military magistrate and specialized in international and operational law, advising special operations forces on highly classified missions in Afghanistan and multiple other countries.
Mr. Marshall is a graduate of Texas A&M University, where he earned a B.B.A. in Finance and served in the Corps of Cadets, where he originally joined the U.S. Army following 9/11 and was commissioned as a Military Intelligence Officer. During a time of war, Mr. Marshall was one of six individuals in the nation granted an educational deferment by the U.S. Army, which he used to attend Southern Methodist University’s Dedman School of Law, where he was accepted into the JAG Corps. During college, he also completed a White House Internship under the George W. Bush administration.
Mr. Marshall is U.S. Army Airborne Ranger qualified and has served with the 7th, 5th, and 3rd Special Forces Groups (Airborne), the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), and the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, among others. He held a Top Secret/SCI security clearance and was regularly ranked as the top attorney among his peers and supervising commanders while in the military. Advising on hundreds of real-time combat operations and completing the U.S. Army’s Ranger School has uniquely trained him to develop disciplined, practical solutions to some of the world’s most difficult problems. During his years of active duty, he provided legal advice around the world and counseled senior military commanders during highly classified peacetime and wartime missions.
A North Texas native, Mr. Marshall grew up in Dallas and is a graduate of Highland Park High School.
